Not to mention some of the best media outlets are being run by a single anonymous person…
Within Fashion, Martin Margiela has always been a huge advocate for remaining anonymous. Shayne Oliver’s new brand is even called “anonymous club” which might have been a bit more effective if we didn’t know who was behind it, but Shayne’s always been an elusive person anyway so it still works.
The reason why it’s the future is that “fame” is seemingly just one viral post away for all of us when fame felt like it was something that was earnt through sheer talent and consistency, this then paired with the ability to be “verified” on socials for a small fee which, again, was something people set as a goal, made the whole ordeal pointless, and made most of us naturally focus on anonymity rather than getting famous.
Then, take @hidden.ny , (another success story for the anonymous) they’ve sold out collections, built a following the same size as some of your favourite celebs and have had Collabs with some of the biggest names in fashion, so being personally known really isnt a necessary factor in success anymore - at least not in the creative field.
We also think the next big social media platform will be based around this idea of anonymity.
